Complying with new directions from the City and County, playgrounds and basketball courts at Phil Hardberger Park have been closed.
We have been informed that the City Manager has directed that all events sponsored by the City of San Antonio must be canceled in response to its Declaration of Emergency. We hope this crisis will pass soon and we can get back to the business of connecting people to nature through our programs.
The eighth season of the Children’s Vegetable Garden has come to a close. The last day in the garden was bustling with families harvesting their crops and sharing with each other the bounty of their hard work over the last three months.
Starting Wednesday, Dec. 12, a small section of Water Loop Trail on the Blanco Rd side of Hardberger Park will be closed.
Drake White, Master Naturalist and Volunteer Project Manager of the Butterfly Learning Center in Phil Hardberger Park has a special treat for us.
Cochineal is a scale insect and is found on prickly pear cactus, Opuntia engelmanii. As a rasping, sucking insect, it feeds on the tasty juices of the cactus. It produces a cottony white covering to protect itself from predators.
If you can, avoid being in the sun during the hottest part of the day, usually between 2-4:30 p.m. Phil Hardberger Park doesn't close until sunset, so make use of the longer days and come check out the park in the evening.
