Salado Creek Greenway Trail
The Howard W. Peak Greenway Trail System (Greenway) is a growing network of approximately 65 miles of developed multi-use and accessible trails. The Greenway trails wind through natural landscapes along many of San Antonio’s waterways. One of those waterway trails, the Salado Creek Greenway Trail, runs through Phil Hardberger Park and connects to the network of trails in the park. The Salado Creek Greenway Trail is 20 miles long, and an expansion from 1604 Road to Eisenhauer Park is expected to open within the next year.
There are two trailheads of the Salado Creek Greenway in Phil Hardberger Park. One is located at the Salado Outdoor Classroom (13203 Blanco Road) and the other is located at the Voelcker Homestead Trailhead (1021 Voelcker Lane).

The Salado Creek Greenway Trail
North of Phil Hardberger Park
8 miles — The Salado Creek Greenway North from Phil Hardberger Park to 1604 features an 8-mile segment of multi-use recreational trail with asphalt and concrete surface trails. The scenic route runs between bluffs that run along Salado Creek and into Phil Hardberger Park.
East of Phil Hardberger Park
12 miles – The Salado Creek Greenway from Blanco Road to Rittman Road features multi-use recreational trail made from asphalt and concrete. Trail users can enjoy views of large Pecan and Live Oak trees along Salado Creek.
One segment of trail, near Nacogdoches Road and Lady Bird Johnson Park, features a unique 3,400-foot boardwalk that runs along the Salado Creek wetland area. The Morningstar Boardwalk was so named in honor of Army Staff Sergeant Christopher Morningstar, a native of San Antonio who gave his life for his country. The Boardwalk is decorated with a sign honoring SSG Morningstar and an inlay of red, white and blue ceramic tile topped by a star.
