Earth Day is Thursday, April 22. However, just because it is set on one day doesn’t mean we can’t do something to improve our world every day.
If you are interested, here are a couple of ways that you can give back in Phil Hardberger Park:
Pack it in, Pack it out: Litter is always an issue. You can do your part to help by ensuring that you don’t contribute to the problem. If you already make a habit of taking your trash out with you, thank you. The more people that take personal responsibility for their trash, the better.
Reduce the amount of disposable items that you use. Bring your picnic lunch in reusable containers. Bring your own water bottle. There are many ways to reduce the need to find a trashcan, thus reducing the chances that something won’t make it in to the trash.
Pick Up Litter: There is always a need for volunteers to pick up litter along the trails.
The Water Loop is a high traffic trail and is always in need of litter patrol.
The Oak Loop and Savanna Loops are always in need.
The Salado Greenway Trail that runs from 1604 to Jones Maltsberger is also in need of litter cleanup.
Report Volunteer Hours
If you would like to receive credit for your volunteer hours, please reach out to our Park Biologist Jewell Lee Cozort, and let her know where, when, and how long you worked to pick up litter. Reporting volunteer hours helps park staff understand the need of these different issues.
