Drake White's Butterfly Video Blog - Week 6

Welcome to Week 6 of Drake White video Blog. Drake is a Master Naturalist and Volunteer Project Manager of the Butterfly Learning Center in Phil Hardberger Park.

She was venturing out into her backyard every day during quarantine to teach us how to look for butterfly activity in our very own yards or park.

April 30, 2020 - Day 36 of Quarantine - Drake White, Master Naturalist and Volunteer Project Manager of the Butterfly Learning Center in Phil Hardberger Park has another video.

Do you have a Cenizo in your yard? If so, you could have these Calleta silk moth caterpillars too. But make sure to just observe them, they can sting if touched. Nothing harmful, just a bit painful. This is also a host plant for the Theona Checkerspot butterfly.

Having enough food supply for caterpillars is really important. Do your research on any caterpillars you want to raise before taking on that responsibility. Some caterpillars eat A LOT.

Sometimes butterflies form their chrysalis in places that aren’t quite safe. Moving butterfly chrysalids is fairly easy. You’ll need water and patience, that’s it. Be sure to hang it so it has enough space to fill its wings when it emerges.
